Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical wargame set during the tumultuous Rise of Rome, spanning from 280 BC to 25 BC. Developed by renowned designer Richard Bodley Scott and built on a new 3D engine, the game brings the strategic depth and excitement of classic tabletop battles to the digital realm. Players can command a wide array of historically accurate armies, from Roman legions before and after the Marian reforms to Greek hoplites, Carthaginian spearmen, Gallic warbands, and even war elephants and chariots. The game covers a fascinating period of military evolution, allowing players to explore diverse tactical doctrines and unit types that defined ancient warfare. The gameplay offers a rich experience through a variety of modes, including historically based scenarios featuring famous battles like Cannae, Zama, and Carrhae, as well as a flexible custom battle system that lets players create “what-if” engagements between nations that never historically clashed. The campaign mode provides an opportunity to rewrite history by leading some of antiquity’s greatest generals to victory, with units gaining experience and morale improvements over time. Battles are fought on detailed, historically inspired maps generated randomly or designed by players using the built-in editor.
